 Race: Elf Actor: Michael Elsworth Aliases: The Shipwright, The Shipbuilder, Lord Círdan Appears in: FotR Movie Bio: Lord Círdan of the Havens is The Shipbuilder who rules over The Grey Havens, the point of departure for the Elves who are leaving Middle-earth. His appearance in the movie consists of two moments – one confirmed, one speculative: 1. Círdan appears in the Prologue (alongside Galadriel and Gil-galad) as one of the three Elves who are gifted the newly-forged Rings. Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. (Note that, in Tolkien’s written word, Círdan surrenders his Ring – Narya – to Gandalf. Will we see Gandalf bearing Narya? Will we see a flashback of the gifting of the Ring?...) Círdan is then not shown onscreen again throughout either FotR or TTT, but the results of his actions are present in the movies - when we see the Elves leaving Middle-earth in the Extended DVD, we can assume that it is to Círdan’s ships that they travel. 2. His presence in the much-anticipated Grey Havens scene would be logical, and we could expect him to have a few lines to say. Will it be so…? Who can say? … Yes, “PJ can”, I know, but that was a rhetorical question.
