![]() Name: Ereinion Gil-galad ("Descendent-of-Kings Star-of-Radiance") Race: Elven (Noldor) Actor: Mark Ferguson Aliases: High King Gil-galad Appears in: FotR (the Prologue) Movie Bio: Not a lot is shown of Gil-galad in the movie, and even less is said. He appears briefly in the Prologue, during the battle of the Last Alliance and it is clear that, in the Movie Universe (like in the written word), Gil-galad is High King of the Elves. - He wears a circlet in battle (establishing his status) and it is his banner that the Elven warriors hoist. Though that moment is not shown onscreen, it can be assumed that Gil-galad dies during this battle, prior to Sauron’s defeat. (Especially since such a scene was shot, but left out of the finished film.) Gil-galad was an Elven-king, Of him the harpers sadly sing: The last whose realm was fair and free Between the Mountains and the Sea. His sword was long, his lance was keen, His shining helm afar was seen; The countless stars of heaven's field Were mirrored in his silver shield. But long ago he rode away, And where he dwelleth none can say; For into darkness fell his star In Mordor where the shadows are. [JRR Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings] Equipment: Vilya ![]() Gil-galad is the original bearer of the Ring of Air (which later passes to Elrond). He can be seen wielding it in the Prologue, alongside Galadriel and Círdan - It began with the forging of the Great Rings. Three were given to the Elves: immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings.
