His former contempt towards elves evaporated when he saw Galadriel with his own eyes. In the gift-giving, he requested three strands of the lady's hair, an unusual and precious gift for him. After Frodo left for Mordor alone with Sam, Gimli joined Aragorn and Legolas, now his best friend, in the search for the hobbits Merriadoc and Peregrin. They crossed paths with the Rohirrim and participated in the Battle of Helm's Deep. Their journey still continues.
