 Name: Meriadoc Brandybuck Race: Hobbit Actor: Dominic Monaghan Aliases: Merry Appears in: FotR, TTT, RotK Movie Bio: Although Merry was the older of the duo he formed with Peregrine Took, he was often in cahoots with his young friend in tricks and escapades. However, he was not slow to comprehend the peril when he aided Frodo in escaping the Nazgul. At the Council of Elrond, he took a step into the larger world when he offered to help Frodo in his quest. When the Fellowship were attacked by Uruk-hai at Parth Galen, he courageously diverted the attention of the Uruk-hai to himself and Pippin to lead them away from Frodo. They were captured by the Uruk-hai after Boromir was fatally injured while defending them. The Uruk-hai were on their way to deliver the Hobbits to Isengard when they were attacked by Eomer and the Rohirrim exiles as they camped for the night near Fangorn Forest. In the chaos, they managed to cut off their bonds and escaped into the forest. They encountered Treebeard, an Ent who was suspicious of them until they were vouched for by Gandalf the White. They were present at the conference where the Ents would decide if they should render aid in the coming conflict. Aware of the danger Saruman's army represented in Middle Earth, Merry was dismayed when the Ents decided they would not afterall, involved themselves in the war. Despite his pleas, the Ents refused to reconsider. The implications of their decision cast Merry into depression. He wryly and solemnly disabused young Pippin of his naivety when he spoke of having a safe haven at the Shire. His words prodded Pippin into looking at the wider horizon and inspired the event which resulted in Treebeard summoning the Ents into attacking Isengard when he saw the destruction of the land. Merry continued to grow into his full potential in ROTK. At the end of the War of the Ring, he returned to live at Hobbiton.
