 Name: Watcher in the Water Race: Monster Actor: CGI Appears in: FotR Movie Bio: The Watcher in the Water is the so-called guardian of the Westgate, residing in the waters in front of the Doors of Durin (in the Walls of Mória). In the movie, it is attracted by the movements of the Fellowship near the water (while they attempt to break the Riddle written in Ithildin) - and, especially, by Merry and Pippin's game of skipping-stones. Rising from the waters, the Watcher uses its tentacles to grab Frodo and - in the Movie - searches for the Ring with its "fingers". The rest of the Fellowship promptly acts, and Aragorn and Boromir have a certain degree of success fighting the Watcher's tentacles with their swords - but in the end, it is Legolas who defeats the Monster, through the deadly accuracy of his bow and arrow.
