Galadriel's Test

by finafyr

I passed the test
For thousands of years I have been banished
From the land across the sea
First from their command
And then by the stubbornness
Of my heart
I have worked in this sweet land Of Middle earth
In my own way to keep back the dark
And none knew what that banishment
Has done within my heart
I came with the rebellion of Feanor
In a time so distant that none can now remember
I did not come with a desire for vengeance
But with a desire to the see the land of middle earth
Because death was dealt when we came here
The Valar banished us
Maybe it was justly done
But not all came for the same reason.
I had not part in the death of the Telari
But I in truth did not try to stop it
My mind was in other places
And I stood as one that was blind
While ten thousand brothers and sisters
Cried out in pain
I was o so young and did not know
What that crying would bring
Through long years unnumbered
I have lived here in a half-life
So different from the dream of Valinor
But my heart has dreamt of boats that sail
Across the wide wide sea
And I cry to think there would be no ship
That would come and carry me
across so wide a sea
But then he came to me
And offered me what I should not take
And in a gracious instant
I saw what would be come of me
Should I take what he has offered me?
I felt the power of desire and I felt
that Middle earth would pay too great a price
So I said no and passed the test
And then on distant winds I heard Them say
Come home my child to stay
