There was no copyright, so i bring you this idea from another site. *evil grin*
You will be given a phrase or quote. Choose a letter, and our lovely assistant, Yavanna White, will turn them over as they're called. First person to solve gets to set the next puzzle.
Rules are simple:
One letter per person per day, but you can solve anytime.
If the phrase is in a different language, it must be made known.
Puzzles can be as short or as long as desired - keep it manageable, though.
Hints can be given at the discretion of the person setting the phrase. Flagrant bribing is encouraged.
This was strictly a LotR game over at the site that it was stolen from; but it could be on any topic/genre/blahblah, as long as it's clearly specified what.
i'll start and make it simple (from FotR):
"_ _ _ _/ _ _ _ _/ _ _ _ _/ _ _ _ _ _ _ _/ _ _ _ _ _.// _ _ _/ _ _ _ _/ _ _ _ _/ _ _ _/ _ _ _ _ _ _ _/ _ _ _ _."
EDIT: vBBoard won't automatically recognise word breaks, so you have to show them yourself.
This thread is dedicated to Raising Iron. Wherever you are, i hope you got that heavy metal band together and you're making sweet music. ;)

"_a_ _/ t_at/ _ _ _ _/ _ _ s_ _ _ _/ _ _at_.// A _ _/ s_ _ _/ t_at/ _ _ _/ _ _s_ _ _ _/ _ _ _ _."

Ardwinna jumps up and down excitedly...
I know it, I know it, I KNOW IT!!!! :D :D :D

Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life.
YAY!! :D
I haven't got time to post a puzzle just yet, but I'll be back with a new one SOON! :D

ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding
Well done, Ardwinna! You win an all-expense-paid trip to the Literary Forum where you'll have unlimited posting privileges! :)
EDIT:
Haha, that was just what we had behind door number 1, Ardwinna!
So what prizes do we really have in store for our lucky winner then?
Commentator: Ooohhhh, Bob, we have a LOVELY ring, cast in the deepest fires of Mount Doom itself. Among other things, it's extremely rare, and has a wonderful Elvish inscription. It is also a useful homing device for Dark Lords.
Over here, we have for you your VERY OWN FUZZY BEDROOM SLIPPERS WITH BALROG HEADS ON THE TOES! Shown here in fuschia, you can have your choice of electric blue, black, firey red, or neon green.
There'd be more to come if i wasn't so tired, so i'll stop here ;).
Théodwyn
10-14-2002, 08:05 AM
Ooooh, oooh! I'll have a pair of electric-blue Balrog-head slippers!
Whaddaya mean, I haven't won?! I'm a spectator! Spectators deserve prizes too, you know. No? Fine. Be that way.
slips tap a 20
Ardwinna
10-14-2002, 09:28 AM
Aww, tap... I really would like a pair of the Balrog-head fuzzy slippers in fiery red... but that Ring is awfully tempting ;) :D
Theo, yes, you get a consolation prize... a 24-carat gold stick-pin mallorn brooch ;) :D
Okay, puzzle for today is another LOTR one. It is...
"_ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ ?"

Yaksha
10-14-2002, 05:37 PM
Gimme an R!
Also, are we still on the topic of Lord of the Rings? (tapstree said we can do other categories as well, since a LotR version only would go into the Movie Discussion :))
Edit: Wait, I guessed a letter today for Ardwinna, do I have to wait tomorrow to guess on Hellga's or does it restart?
Lady_Corleone
10-14-2002, 05:43 PM
Gimme.... an A!
tapstree
10-14-2002, 05:45 PM
Yaksha - i'd say you can go more than once in a day if it's for different puzzles. Just want to keep people from being puzzle hogs, y'know? ;)
Hellga
10-14-2002, 05:47 PM
It is LotR for now. And I think it does restart, because it is a different puzzle.

It is a tought class. I am also taking it (I only took high school before, now I am taking college one for chem majors), and I know it isn't easy. I must put more time into it than I do, but there are only 24 hours in a day... We will pull it through :)

Ardwinna
10-15-2002, 02:10 AM

See, people? There's a good reason that I never venture into Lit discussion :o
Can we have a new puzzle, Yakky? :)
Yaksha
10-15-2002, 02:16 AM
Sure thing :) This game is really addicting!
OK, gonna venture out of LotR ... we'll put this in the category of Famous (or perhaps "recognizable" quotes)

Just waiting for the next letters to be turned.
Yaksha
10-15-2002, 02:29 PM
I added in an R, G, E, M, and I
I didn't do the N because I think we're on a 24 hour = a day, not a Monday/Tuesday type thing :p Unless tapstree says it's OK, being the thie ... err ... maker ... of the game :notworthy
EDIT: Due to tapstree's reply below, I have added in the letter N (there! Ya happy now Xyla??? :p  )
Let's just try not to get too crazy, like posting at 11:30 PM and again at 12:30 AM saying it's a new day :)
T h e / _ _ i _ _ / _ r _ _ n/ _ _ _ / _ _ m _ e _ / _ _ e r / t h e / l a _ _ / _ _ g s
A hint? Hmm ... it's not really a specific quote that anyone said ... but it is typed a lot.
Another hint, try guessing some uncommon letters ;)
tapstree
10-15-2002, 02:33 PM
i think that we can go on the honour-system with the 24-hour thing, Yak, and let people operate in their respective time-zones.
Can't get too anal, cos then we'll all have to arm-wrestle over whose time-zone gets to be the default. You were expecting EST, weren'tcha? ;):p
Seriously, what do you all think?
Some hints you've got there, mate.

"The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs"?
(frankly I take offense at the suggestion that dogs are inherently 'lazy'. Haven't you ever heard the expression, 'working like a dog'? That, more than anything sums up the true nature of the noble canine spirit!)
Yaksha
10-15-2002, 02:53 PM
Go tomme! Good, I was just about to head to school and wasn't sure how much time I'd be on in the next 6 hours :)
Yes, the answer was "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs" This sentance contains every letter of the alphabet. People use it to practice typing or use it to make sure all the keys on a typewriter is working :)
Your turn tomme :)

Great game tapstree!
Thanks for letting me play.
Ok, I picked another non-LotR quote, and my clue is that this was inspired by my recent lurking in a thread that is currently residing on page 4.
Further clues will follow if that one is too vague or my quote proves to be too obscure.

Yes, that's RIGHT Xyla!
This classic phrase was uttered by no less than George Bernard Shaw, and I was inspired to use it by reading the 'international translations' thread.
You win a some expenses paid trip for one to the Bagelfest in Charleston Illinois where you'll stay at the beautiful Lincolnland motel (weekly rates available-no pets, smoking or cooking in your room) and enjoy two nights out with a reduced cover charge at Ted's Warehouse, home of head bangin' rock 'n' roll in the downstate area for more than two decades!

pmcatnip....you are the WINNER!
That's right, your winning answer of: "Hey, you don't know what it's like to be treated like a freak!...Well, maybe, you do." is a line from the movie Shrek! I don't remember whether Shrek says this to the donkey or vice versa, but either way you guessed it and you are todays big winner!
As todays winner you receive the right to....
wait for it....
make up the next puzzle!!
Oh you lucky, lucky thing!
