Who is your favorite horse?

I really like "Shadowfax" !
And even though Aragorn has another horse in the beginning ... "Brego" is my second favorite, because he picks up Aragorn and rescues him from having to walk to helms deep ..

{To me Arwen was really watching over him ... she gave him her "grace" and IMO she sent the horse brego ... I am just a romantic ... [like how I rewrite the movie in my head??] :D

Asfaloth is also a cool horse, too - in the books and the movie.

And then Bill the Pony. How could we leave out Bill?

And there's Brego of course, although I'm not sure how I feel about him yet :p There probably will be more of him in the TTT SE DVD so we'll see. (Btw, there's also a Brego (http://www.council-of-elrond.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3397) discussion thread on his role in TTT and such).

I wonder if we'll get to know more horses in ROTK. It's a pity that not much was said about Theoden's horse in the movie.

I like Asfaloth. He (I guess he's a he) has character, I think. In the horse version of TLotR, he's the hero, right? I mean it was Asfaloth who saved the Ring Bearer and kept the Ring from Sauron.

Hmm.. from the movies, probably Asfaloth, since he's absolutely gorgeous racing away from the Nazgul. Plus, Liv says he was quite a spirited boy offscreen, too!;) I also like Shadowfax (what a great first scene in a movie), and Bill's just too darn cute to leave out.

Shadowfax. He's the best whether in the books or the movies :). I do think that Asfaloth in FotR was an extremely beautiful horse, but I don't think I could pick him as a favorite since there was so little of him.

Arod and Asfaloth, for different reasons. Asfaloth seems like a dream horse and a real hero, but Arod reminds me more of my horses...little, fast and fiery.

Hmmmmmm... maybe Shadowfax? Though Arod is pretty cool maybe I'm biased because Leggy rides him. Hasufel has a great name, and Asfaloth is a nice horsie, but nothing could compare with Shadowfax... all silvery and fast. The movie Shadowfax is rubbishy - it's not even grey! Hmph.

No way, I call being Arod! *elbows Nil and EL out of the way* (I'd have to say that my very favorite horse all around is Bill, though. A real sweetie, and Sam took such good care of him after rescuing him from mr. Ferny... I wish he'd been featured more in the movie. :( )

My favorite is Arod, I've loved him since I first read the books, and he's really beautiful in the Movie. Shadowfax is great too though.

They are all beautiful! Especially how half of the ones used in the movies were andalusians!:p I love them!

I just can't have one favorite. Bill, Shadowfax, Asfaloth, Brego, Arod, Hasaful, Snowmane, and ofcourse the yet to be seen Windfola and Firefoot. (I guess y'all can tell I'm one of those horse freaks:o )


p.s.-since I'm new among y'all veterans, maybe you could help me out if you can. Any hints on what to do on here would be swell. I don't really know what I'm doing yet! Thanx bunches!

I actually don't like Shadowfax that much. He is a cool horse, but when Gandalf & co ride to Edoras, right outside the wall, you see that it holds his head down to go up easier. It turns a proud way of walking into a lazy sunday-afternoon trip. Also, he's white, not silvery grey. I know these are ofcourse but details, but aren't details what makes a film good?

I like Asfaloth, the first one that is (the one you see through Frodo's eyes). He's just beautiful and really has the looks of an Elvish horse.

I also like Brego. He's a nice horse, well trained for the purposes of the Dunedain, he thinks of his own.

Not too impressed with the movie horses, they were a bit... well, just horses. Shadowfax in the books was the best, all fast and silver and shiny. Snowmane was good, nice and white and pure. But what was with movie Shadowfax being white?? He's meant to be silver! Yes, I know, there aren't many silver horses out there, but they could've used some kind of special effect? Failing that, they could at least have painted a horse silver. Sheesh.;)

my guess is after trying to coax shadowfax to move at the speed of light and bear some weird silvery crap all over his body for a few weeks or so, they just gave up and let him do whatever he wanted.

Shadowfax for me without a doubt. :D Silver or not he GLOWS as does GTW. This pair will instill awe in me for certain in ROTK. How they appear in the ROTK trailer has me on my knees already.

I recently rode a Bill the Pony look alike only taller and he was kind of naughty so the white hand of Saruman was placed on his rump in insect repellent.:) Bill the Pony has a soft spot in my heart also. Brave little pony that he is.

Horses of The Fellowship

Bill- He's just too sweet, although I think in reality the "Bill" we see standing next to the hobbits may well be a draft horse, putting a real pony next to the actors would have made them look too big.

Asfaloth- while not getting too much screen time, he still impressed me, and as a horseperson, he'd be the first choice if I was asked which horse I would like to swing a leg over; he's also quite the looker ;)

Steeds of the Black Riders- These horses just looked TOO cool, particularly when they're prancing around outside Bree. Who wouldn't want to have an intimidating horse? :devil:

Horses of The Two Towers

Hasufel- Can't say too much about poor Has, I suppose he's cursed with "average" looks. And if I'm not mistaken, isn't he killed in the Warg attack? :( Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Arod- Arod is delightfully "hunky" Look at the butt on that guy! ;) (The HORSE people, not the rider! :p)

Shadowfax- Stunningly gorgeous, faithful companion. This horses' only fault is... he's full of himself! Sheesh, never seen an animal with such an ego. He just let's the whole "Lord of all horses" thing, go to his head a bit. :D

Brego- While being an added character, I guess you could say, I still love Brego. Every time I watch that scene I think to myself "AWWW! Good Brego!" and am overcome with the desire to give Brego big hugs and lots of carrots :swoon:

So all in all, I'm unable to choose just one of these notably swoonworthy animals.

Bill beyond the shadow of a doubt!! How great was Bill in both Film/Book. I loved Bill b/c of how Samwise acts towards him. It is almsot like a little Sam for himself.
